Yakup

Hailing from Istanbul but formed in Seattle in 2005, the group includes Yakup Trana (vocals, guitar) Ceki Levikatan (guitar), Reha Hendem (bass guitar) and Çağdaş Yapıcılar (drums).
This serebe band’s principle is sharing music with people and offering joyous times.
Debut album ‘Şunu Bunu’ (This And That) was released in 2005 followed by a single ‘Karanlıkta’ (In Dark). The band describes the album as “the presentation of classic rock in Seattle perspective”.
Yakup completed second album ‘Kaos’ (Chaos) in Seattle and released it in 2007. It offers the Turkish rock community a modern take in Western rock music and the whole album can be heard via the band’s official website.

Bedwetters

Bedwetters was born in 2004. Since then the line-up has changed several times. The band consists of five members: Joosep Järvesaar, Mihkel Mõttus, Karl-Kristjan Kingi, Kaspar Koppel and Rauno Kutti.

In 2007, Bedwetters won the young band contest and they were recognized as the best young band in Estonia. They also received an award - making their own music video, and it’s been a hectic time for Bedwetters ever since.

As new winds are blowing, the band hopes to make it big on the world stage. They are planning to start making their debut album in autumn, so it will hopeful

Arctic Monkeys

Launched on the world in 2002 Arctic Monkeys are the finest witty, social commentating, sing-out-loud indie rock to come from Sheffield since, well, Pulp really.

Whatever they put in the water in Sheffield, they should bottle it. With a natural wit, a natty line in tracksuit tops and a healthy disregard for awards shows, the four lads’ songs create a sense of place and time so real you can feel the pub carpets sticking to your trainers. Sideways looks at modern life that could only come from Northern England laid over guitar hooks you could hang a side of beef on threw them in front of an instantly adoring world and they’ve not looked back since.

A large part of their success came from the ground up with fan-made compilation tapes building a word of mouth reputation that marketing bods the world over would kill their cats for.

Muse

If Muse sound like something from another planet when you whack 'em on your stereo, seeing them live is like going there with them.

A sound that measures on the Richter scale combine with a display of lights that can cause a problem for passing aircraft, to create an experience that is not to be missed. If you're sick of the oldies rattling on about Pink Floyd, get up and see their modern equivalent.

It was no throwaway comment from Justin Timberlake when he called them the best band present at last years EMAs; but is that still true today?

Only you can decide…

Foo Fighters

The Foo's are one of those bands who kinda sit and quietly produce fantastic music, while the rest of the world screams about getting noticed.

Could be that Dave Grohl's involvement with Nirvana kinda ruined any dreams of fame for him? Or it could just be that the four of them are more interested in writing a great tune than they are the screaming.

'In Your Honor' was a double disk of pure treats; a kick ass first disk and a mellow flavoured second gave a little something for everyone, though new disk, 'Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace,' sounds like it's got disk two written all over it.

Whatever they're going for, though, the Foos are a proper class…

Amy Winehouse

Amy Winehouse has had an astonishing year.

Her new album 'Back to Black' not only sounds like it was sung by a soul diva from Motown's heyday, it could have been written by a woman thirty years her senior.

Never one to short change her life experience bank account, she's been in and out of rehab and has made it from small town Southgate, in the leafy suburbs of London, to conquer the world.

If you need any proof of her pedigree, one listen at 'Love is a Losing Game' from this year's Mercury prize will silence the doubters. Amy is the stuff that legends are made from.

Mika

Mika seemed to come from no-where with 'Grace Kelly,' a near perfect pop song, and, being blessed with the kind of voice that can raise the roof and shake the foundations the man seems born to perform.

Coming from Lebanese/US parentage, he lived in Paris and London, before being trained by an opera singer. He wrote his first tune after listening to Nirvana, and was finally employed writing for British Airways and Orbit chewing gum ... in short: he's a wonderful, new world, pop mess that shouldn't work but does.

No surprises that the main comparisons he gets are with Freddie Mercury and David Bowie - two names that aren't bandied around lightly in the world of music.

An international act, if ever there was one, and don't we love him...

Nelly Furtado

Canadian singer, songwriter, record producer and instrumentalist, Nelly Furtado, came to fame in 2000 with the release of her debut album ‘Whoa Nelly!’ which featured her breakthrough Grammy Award-winning single ‘I’m Like A Bird’.

After becoming a mother and releasing the less commercially successful ‘Folklore’ in 2003, she returned to prominence in 2006 with the release of ‘Loose’ and its hit singles ‘Promiscuous’, ‘Maneater’, ‘Say It Right’ and ‘All Good Things (Come to an End)’.

Nelly Furtado is known for experimenting with different instruments, sounds, genres, languages and vocal styles. This diversity has been influenced by her wide-ranging musical taste and her interest in different cultures. She

Avril Lavigne

Like the musical equivalent of a Red Bull and coffee cocktail, Avril Lavigne is the little ball of energy that can do what she likes, as long as she stays away from my boyfriend!

She's not come far since her skaterboy days, but the jump in the air pop she's refined has kept stereos cranked up to the full, so why change?

This past year she's expanded into Hollywood and gone 'Over the Hedge' with the likes of Bruce Willis and Steve Carrell, and she joined 'The Flock' in Richard Gere's new thriller.

The world is at her feet … and my boyfriend is on my arm!

Tokio Hotel

German rockers 'Tokio Hotel' have had an uber year, having recorded two albums – one in German and one in English – which have firmly established their push for the international market.

It's no surprise they've decided to take the leap, having brought their home country to its knees since being signed in 2005. Multi-platinum albums, 60,000 sell out crowds and more silverware than the German football team, have left them biting at the international bit.

Really, the only question for the non German speaking world is what's taken so long? Which leaves the German world puzzling: do we care?

Goo Charlotte

American pop-punk veterans, Good Charlotte, have put out four albums since they got together in 1996. Having supported Lit and Blink 182 in the late 90’s they released their self titled debut in 2000. However, it was the 2002 follow up ‘The Young and the Hopeless’ that marked the band's emergence into mainstream popularity.

The five-piece is fronted by identical twin brothers Joel and Benji Madden, and will be the opening act on Justin Timberlake’s FutureSex/LoveShow in September 2007.

‘Morning Revival’ is Good Charlotte’s latest album, which was released in March 2007 and debuted in the top 10 of thirteen countries worldwide including the U.S., giving the band some of their highest international chart positions so far.

Kanye West

West's mascot and trademark is a teddy bear, which has appeared on the covers of his three albums as well as the single cover for his recent single ‘Stronger’.

The Chicago rapper and record producer first shot to fame in the mid 2000s, and released his third album ‘Graduation’ in 2007. The album sold nearly 1 million copies the first week of sales, and was purposely released the same day as 50 Cent’s ‘Curtis’. ''To be a champion, you've got to take out a champion,'' West said.

He has spoken out against homophobia in hip-hop and stirred up controversy with his comment that he would be in a Bible if one was written in present time.

Timbaland

Is there anybody left who hasn’t worked with Timbaland? Singer, rapper, producer, composer… the man is a one man music factory who has had a hand in the careers of everyone from Nelly Furtado and Björk through to Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z.

He may have started out as DJ Timmy Tim on a Casio keyboard but mixing beats growing up with Missy Elliot and Pharrell Williams led to some lifelong music connections.

His writing partnership with Elliot was a huge success through the 90s and production hits include Justin Timberlake’s global smash ‘Cry Me A River’.

Recent forays in front of the mixing desk saw him join JT again and Nelly Furtado for the track ‘Give It To Me’ and his current workload involves a production gig for Madonna. Busy boy that one.

Gym Class Heroes

It was a chance meeting during a high school gym class that set the musical path for MC Travis ‘Schleprok’ McCoy and drummer Matt McGonley, as well as lending them their name.

With 10 years graft under their musical belts, it’s a head scratcher how Gym Class Heroes still seem pumped with the fresh energy of new arrivals.

Playing live hop hop with instruments and a loyal following earned working the party and festival circuits goes a way to explaining this and the crossover appeal between indie and hop hop fans is paying off in sales big time. Kerching!

Beyonce

What can we say about Beyonce? Well, to start with: we hate her! Not really, we love her, honestly. But when there's only a certain number of great things in the world, is it fair that one girl should have it all?

The Roc-a-fella's her fella, the only place you'd find more gold and platinum than on her walls is in her jewelry cabinet and now she's appearing in Oscar nominated movies to boot.

She's got the voice from the heavens and a booty that … well, it's let's just say it's divine.

Beautiful, talented and dog garn it, she's just a lovely lass as well! A hundred percent genuine Dream Girl…

Rihanna

Rihanna made a triumphant return in 2007. ‘Umbrella’ dominated the TV and radio this summer and hit Number 1 across Europe. It also had everyone walking around singing along to its irresistible chorus.

The Barbados born singer’s second album ‘Good Girl Gone Bad’, also released this year, was critically acclaimed and gave us the rock influenced second single ‘Shut Up And Drive’. Guided by her label boss Jay-Z- who also featured on ‘Umbrella’- her stunning videos and sassy new look have also helped win her more fans.

After winning the Best Video Award at this year’s VMAs in Las Vegas Rihanna could definitely steal another moonman statue from other stars. At just 19 years of age there’s a lot more great music to come too!

Justin Timberlake

In 2007 Justin has confirmed his place as the biggest male solo star in the world with huge hits ‘My Love’, ‘Sexyback’ and ‘Lovestoned’. Revamping his sound after his debut album Justified, Timberlake has pushed pop music forward with help from Timbaland.

Teaming up with the producer has been a masterstroke for the former teen pin-up who this year featured with Nelly Furtado on ‘Give It To Me’ and sung on 50 Cent’s ‘Ayo Technology’. Everyone in music wants Justin on their tracks, he’s even started recording with the queen of pop – Madonna.

The singer’s talents have even stopped everyone talking about those famous girlfriends and the boyband he started out with!

My Chemical Romance

'Welcome to the Black Parade' rocketed MCR from their position as humble Goth rockers to international super group, with band leader Gerard Way achieving cult status along the way.

Few modern groups have divided opinion as successfully as this lot. A major poll this year awarded them Best Band, Worst Band, Best Album, Worst Album, and made Way Sexiest Male and the fourth Sexiest Female!

While many bands talk about concept albums, 'The Black Parade' is the real deal and easily stands up on it's own as a work of modern rock art. But it was no stand alone album, merely the point when MCR moved from the cult stage to the main stage.

Fall Out Boy

Fall Out Boy are among Emo's most respected and versatile ambassadors. Despite collaborating with the likes of Timbaland, Kanye West and Gym Class Heroes they've lost none of the pop punk sound that established them 'From Under the Cork Tree,' two years ago.

A string of awards and a headline tour followed, and before you can say 'A Little Less Candles and a Little More Touch Me,' they were on their way.

But it was their latest offering, 'Infinity on High,' that really split the atom and left them riding high on the mushroom cloud of international success. There are currently no signs of any impeding fall out, which means these boys are here to stay.

Evanescence

Evanescence is Amy Lee (vocals, piano), Terry Balsamo (guitar), Tim McCord (bass), Troy McLawhorn (guitar) and Will Hunt (drums).

Originally hailing from Little Rock, Arkansas, the band’s sound is a nearly mystical marriage between rock, goth and classical.

Their first full-length album, ‘Fallen’, was released in 2003 and has sold more than 14 million copies worldwide. The internationally appealing Top 10 singles ‘Bring Me to Life’ and ‘My Immortal’ led to two 2003 Grammy Awards.

Latest album, ‘The Open Door‘, is defined by Amy’s stunning vocals, beautiful melodies, and poignant piano fused with Terry’s heavy guitar. It’s a transformation of epic proportions for the band, which, in many ways has only just begun to make its mark on the music world.

Linkin Park

Linkin Park have been hard rocking since the turn of the millennium, rapidly becoming the voice of a generation. Two Grammys, three studio albums and sales figures in excess of forty million ensure there's really no disputing their position as rock royalty.

The question of how you follow a Diamond selling debut, a six times platinum follow up and a unique partnership between nu-metal and hip-hop guru Jay-Z was answered this year when 'Minutes to Midnight' rocketed to the top of the US Charts.

The Projekt Revolution tour followed, and a standout performance for Live Earth in Japan solidifying the bands position as modern day rock hard legends!

30 Seconds to Mars

Originally a side project between two brothers, Jared and Shannon Leto, 30 Seconds to Mars have shot to fame and fortune. This would have been more impressive were one of the brothers not already a major Hollywood star.

Jared Leto is one of those fellas you have to hate. After starting in 'My So Called Life,' he's now got a string of smash hit movies under his belt – including 'Girl, Interrupted,' 'Fight Club,' and he was also in 'Alexander,' but you can't win 'em all, eh!

Despite losing Bassist Matt Wachter live on stage in El Paso, Texas, '30 Seconds…' have gone from strength to strength, touring, recording a string of movie related videos and being nominated here.

Jared: we are not worthy!

MTV Europe Music Awards

The MTV Europe Music Awards were established in 1994 by MTV Europe to celebrate the most popular music videos in Europe. Originally beginning as an alternative to the American MTV Video Music Awards, the MTV Europe Music Awards is today a popular celebration of what MTV viewers consider the best in music. Unlike the VMAs, most of the awards are voted for by the viewers.

The MTV Europe Music Awards always changes its host city. Up until now Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom hosted the event twice. Germany will host the event for a third time in 2007 with the awards being held in Munich, November 1, 2007. Furthermore it was announced on October 31, 2007 that the 2008 MTV Europe Music Awards will be hosted in Liverpool, United Kingdom.

The awards are presented annually and broadcast live on MTV Europe, MTV and most of the international MTV channels as well as online.

To date, Eminem has won the most awards with 9 (including one with D12) in total. He is followed by Justin Timberlake (5), The Prodigy (5), Backstreet Boys (4), Madonna (4), Britney Spears (4), Robbie Williams (4), Red Hot Chili Peppers (4), Coldplay (4), Spice Girls (3), Muse (3), Alicia Keys (3), Linkin Park (3), Jennifer Lopez (3), Kane (3), Gorillaz (3), and Oasis (3).
