Launched on the world in 2002 Arctic Monkeys are the finest witty, social commentating, sing-out-loud indie rock to come from Sheffield since, well, Pulp really.
Whatever they put in the water in Sheffield, they should bottle it. With a natural wit, a natty line in tracksuit tops and a healthy disregard for awards shows, the four lads’ songs create a sense of place and time so real you can feel the pub carpets sticking to your trainers. Sideways looks at modern life that could only come from Northern England laid over guitar hooks you could hang a side of beef on threw them in front of an instantly adoring world and they’ve not looked back since.
A large part of their success came from the ground up with fan-made compilation tapes building a word of mouth reputation that marketing bods the world over would kill their cats for.
